Our park is a protected area of over 450 acres providing a large and valued recreational area for many people and many activities. Stretching down to the River Severn in the south, the park extends as far north as Malinslee. At the west it reaches Dawley and extends east to Randlay and Stirchley.

The park is an important element of Telford's green structure, planned for from the outset. When Telford was created - named in 1968 - it was intended to be a "forest" town, with plenty of trees and greenery. Although still existing, our open and green places are under ever increasing threat as is land all over the country.

It could have been very different - in the mid-20th century the area was a wasteland of old industrial works. The area had originally been a hive of industry as it was rich in coal, this fact reflected in many of the local names, but by the 1960s this had run out and heavy industry was reducing in the UK generally.

Property was cheap and people generally poor. The advent of Telford New Town and it's development redressed much of this situation and came with enough cash to not only build the town but to reclaim the land. With people came the new industries which remain a vital part of Telford's economy. Many of the companies operating in Telford are from overseas, with particular emphasis on Japanese manufacturers of many different markets. Thus Telford rose like a phoenix from the ashes of our industrial past and bought wealth and employment back to a depressed area.

Sadly the park has deterioted in recent years (the pictures on this page are a couple of years old) and this discussion forum, ostensibly on behalf of, but not solely for, HOOP (Hands On Our Park) is here to try and see how best to improve and maintain our park for not just us but future generations. This forum is 100% on behalf of our park, which cannot defend itself.

The other sites associated with the park are linked at the top of this page; this site is intended only as a talking point for which ALL viewpoints are welcome in the discussion that is the future of our park and, indeed, our open spaces.
